St John’s Christmas Pageant tells the story of the Nativity in words and music

A full cast of angels, shepherds and wise men came to greet the baby Jesus as St John’s Christian Education presented the 2025 Christmas Pageant.

First Mary and Joseph arrived, looking for shelter in Bethlehem but finding it only in a stable with a manger as a cradle for their baby.
Luke’s account of the Nativity was read by members of the Confirmation class as the story unfolded.

An angelic throng gathered as the bright star shone above the stable.

Then, summoned by angels, came shepherds who had been watching their flocks by night.

A little later three Wise Men – described in the Gospel according to Matthew – are guided by the star to the infant Jesus, and bring him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

The Pageant ended with “O Come Little Children”, the first performance by the Cookie Choir, and conducted by St John’s Choir Director Kathy Cooper. “They did it beautifully,” she said.

The performance reflected the hard work of its director, Susan Worgul, and Christian Education leaders Jan Nykyforchyn and Evamarie Cooper, as well as the costume department operating behind the scenes.

As always, killing time before the curtain rises was the hardest part.

Mother Jackie led warm applause for the Pageant and thanked the performers and producers for their hard work and dedication in telling the Christmas story so vividly.

Finally, Christian Education students helped to populate the manger.

On this, the Fourth Sunday in Advent, the Advent Wreath was lit, the four colored candles representing hope, peace, love and joy. The wreath itself is a symbol of God’s eternal and unending love. At the center is the white Christmas candle, to be lit during the Christmas Eve service at 7pm.
