Activities for Youth at St. John’s

Nursery

Ages 1 to 5
Available each Sunday from September through May

The nursery is available Sunday morning from 9:45am until Noon for young children ages 1 to 5. We provide a safe environment for children to play and exert their energy while parents attend the worship service and the coffee hour that immediately follows.

Church School

Ages 4 to 12th grade
Classes meet each Sunday morning from September through May—immediately following observance of the Eucharist in the 10am service.

Our Sunday program welcomes children age 4 to 12th grade where they will learn the fundamentals our Christian faith, our Episcopal tradition, and how they relate to their everyday lives. Children attend the worship service at 10:00 am with their families, and once having received Holy Communion, head to their classrooms under the supervision of our church school teachers. Parents can return to pick up their children from their classrooms at noon.

Classes and their locations:
Preschool to 1st Grade will meet in the upstairs classroom.
2nd through 5th grade will meet in the downstairs classroom.
Grades 6 to 12 will meet in the DYEM office.

Sunday Specials

Kindergarten to 5th grade
Every 3rd Sunday of the month at Noon from September through May

Every month, we hold special seasonal activities for children and/or their families. From decorating pumpkins in October, to creating Advent wreaths in December, we look at how the current season ties into our faith and then how it can be practices in our lives. Typically lunch is served, and parents are welcome to join.

Special Events

Age participation varies by event
At various time throughout the year

We provide several other activities for children throughout the year. Vacation Bible School, the Annual Christmas Pageant, and participation in the Niantic Light Parade are a few of these special events.

Youth Group

Grades 6 to 12
Takes place monthly. Typically during the 2nd week of the month from September through May.

Youth group programs offer a chance to “live out” what we are called to do as Christians. Some of the things we are planning are “Faith & Cinema” nights, during which we will combine thought-provoking films with pizza and good conversation; Service to Others, during which we will participate in the Food Pantry, New London Meal Center, New London Homeless Hospitality House, Habitat for Humanity, and other service opportunities; Bible Study; Games Nights; Lock-Ins, retreats, and Lock-Outs.
