Connect with St. John's!
Enhance your worship and care for others by participating in our Ministries. At church or from the comfort of your home, your involvement is important to St. John's. To learn more about the following Ministries, or to volunteer, please contact the church office at 860.739.2324.
Acolytes assist the clergy at the Altar during services. Training is provided. Men and women of all ages enjoy the acolyte ministry!
Not just for ladies, our Altar Guild prepares the Lord's Table for services. We work together on rotating teams to launder the linens, polish brass and silver, and change the altar linens according to the Liturgical Season. Join us!
Nothing says "We're thinking of you" better than a card and handwritten
note from people who care. Members of the Card Ministry send cards to those on the Prayer List and anyone mentioned to them to share in their needs or special occasions.
If you enjoy meeting new people, consider joining the Greeter's Ministry. This group welcomes newcomers and visitors at the church door, helps them to find their way around church and introduces them to other members.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers
St. John's team of Lay Eucharistic Ministers are trained locally and licensed by the Bishop to bring the reserved sacrament to those who are unable to attend church services.
Lectors, or lay readers, read scripture lessons during church services. Lessons are always emailed to the Lector in advance for stress free practice and review!
Ministers of Communion
Ministers of Communion assist the Rector with the distribution of Communion. Our small group is looking to increase its ranks and
new recruits would be a blessing!
Pastoral Care Team
Members of the Pastoral Care Team provide a ministry of prayer and visitation to members of the parish in their home, nursing home and rehab center or hospital. Many friendships have been enriched through this very special ministry!
Prayer Shawl Guild
This Guild reaches out into the community by donating hand knit items to those with special needs: Lap blankets and shawls for those at home; caps for newborns in the NICU; and for the visiting mariner at the Seamen's Institute in NYC, a warm hat or scarf especially for
those mariners who have arrived from warmer climates!
St. Francis Gardening Guild
From Easter until All Saints' Day our gardening group tends a variety of flowers, stays ahead of weeds and reins in larger bushes. We are also responsible for tending our beautiful and sacred Memorial Garden. Members select a week or two during our growing season to take care of the gardens. If you enjoy gardening, we hope you will join us!
Sisters of Prayer
Our Sisters of Prayer group prays for the special needs of our community, for our parish, and for individual needs. We meet monthly as a group and also have an active telephone chain, in lieu of email, as all requests are kept in confidence. If you have a specific request of prayer, write it down and place it in the Prayer Request box which is located in the church near the Sacristy door. Each day these requests are held in prayer by the members of our group. We welcome new members!
Ushers greet worshipers, distribute worship bulletins, collect the offering, direct communion traffic, tidy up the pews after the services and, in general, are the "go to" source for all questions and needs away from the Altar! Men and women, of all ages, usher at the 8 am and 10 am services. Join us!
